FLYC General Information

The Finger Lakes Yacht Club was created some time during the 1980's by tenants of the Village Marina in Watkins Glen, NY. It is composed primarily of sailors because it is the only marina on the southern half of the lake that can accommodate mid- to large-sized sailboats. Other area marinas are either constrained by their depth or by their location behind a bridge that is too low for all but the smallest sailboats.

The FLYC is not a large club, consisting of between 40 and 50 families, so it's easy to get to know everyone. We have frequent social events that will provide plenty of opportunity for you to get to know other boaters with similar interests to yours. Our club also enjoys a close relationship with the Seneca Sail & Power Squadron. Because of this relationship, many of the Squadron classes, seminars and programs are open to FLYC members.

Communications

The FLYC communicates primarily with digital media. In addition to our web site, we publish Port Tacks, our club newsletter, five or six times per year. Past issues can be found on this web site. We have a Facebook page for social media addicts and we send out frequent emails for club announcements and reminders.

Membership

We don't like complexity, so we don't have a series of tiered memberships. Memberships are on a family, or household, basis. That means if one person in your household joins the club, all members of that household are FLYC members. Each family/household is allowed one vote at club meetings and elections. Membership dues are due on May 1st each year. Again, we like it simple.

Because the club does not own any real estate or have any significant investments in capital, and because we are a volunteer club where everyone pitches in to help out, we are able to run a very lean operation and offer very reasonable dues. In fact, the annual dues are probably less than it would cost you to take your family out to dinner!

How to Join

If you are interested in joining, download and print our membership application (click on the link to the right), fill it out, and send it to the address indicated on the form along with a check for your dues. Once your application is processed we will get in touch with you to let you know about various club events and member benefits.
